The Chocolate Festival of Belize started life in 2007 as the Toledo Cacao Festival. The idea was first mentioned in passing at the end of a local tourism meeting, and taken forward by Darla Mallory from Coral House Inn. Darla's vision resulted in the formation of an organizing committee of BTIA members, TCGA members and enthusiastic volunteers from the local community and the rest, as they say, is history!
The Festival is designed to raise awareness of the Toledo District as a responsible tourism destination, and to extend the tourist season. It helps improve the lives of many families, whether through direct employment in the tourism industry, or through the 'ripple effect' spreading money throughout the District.
The Committee believes it is also important to directly benefit the community, in addition to the economic benefits and many free activities during the Festival weekend itself. Past projects have included the refurbishment of Central Park, assisting with the Sea Front Inn's initiative to paint the murals on PG's clocktower, and the refurbishment of the Visitor's Centre at Lubaantun.
The Festival would not be possible without the support of our sponsors, partners, and volunteers. We would like to say a heartfelt "thank you" to everyone involved, including:
